Understand What You Feel
"Life isn't about feeling amazing all the time, it's about understanding both the good and bad feelings" I read this quote three years ago and it made me question my self a lot and even question my decisions. Feelings are just these things that happen. The meaning we build around them—whether it is important or unimportant—comes later.
I believe that there's only two reasons to do anything in life, first one because it feels good and the second because it's something you believe that's good and for you. The best feeling is when these two reasons align together, something feels good and is the right thing to do, at that point you just want to celebrate. But most often, these two reasons don’t align. Something feels disappointing but is right. Like waking up at 7 a.m to go to school. Or something that feels good but is not right like cheating on the exam.
Acting based on our feelings is easy. You feel it, then you do it. There's a sense of relief and satisfaction that comes along with it. It's a quick satisfaction, but then it's gone just as quickly as it came. While acting based on what's good and right is difficult. Because knowing what is good and right is not always clear. Also you often have to sit down and think hard about it to discover what's right. But when we do what's right, the positive effect lasts much longer. We feel pride remembering it years later. We tell our friends and family about it and give our selves cute little awards. So doing what's good and right builds self-esteem and adds meaning to our lives.
So we should just ignore our feelings and do what is good and right all the time, right? it's simple.
Well, like many things in life, it's simple. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's easy! We all tend to be perfect in life and always try to feel good but life isn't that easy. Life is about trying to understand that you'll be obliged to do something that doesn't feel good but is the right thing, you might have bad feelings but with time you'll discover that it actually benefited you. So always try to do the right thing and understand both bad and good feelings with your decision.
So my point is doing what is good/right builds self-esteem and adds meaning to our lives whether you feel good or bad about. And one last advice 'stop being an emotional idiot' respectfully.
